My Yoga Journey

Yoga pursued me until I pursued it. And when we finally met, I realized this wasn't something I could keep to myself- I had to share it with you! I dabbled in yoga poses/asanas as the opportunity arose throughout my life, but never explored the essence of yoga until one day, while in garland pose next to Boise River, praying for peace, I realized that this was yoga. Being with myself and my Source, completely aware and present, is yoga. Over nine months, beginning in 2018, I earned my 200-hour Vinyasa certification at Sage Yoga & Wellness under Naomi Jones & Marissa Wepner so that I could better understand this thing that has brought me physical & mental relief throughout some of the most difficult times in my life. I learned how to share it with diverse groups of practitioners in many settings, studying Adaptive Yoga under Ken Lewis & Yin under Naomi Jones, stretching my creativity through wheel- chair yoga & water yoga, finding my niche in gentle, slow hatha with seniors & injured athletes, but pushing boundaries by teaching hot power yoga too. It is my joy to practice with you!

Born in Juneau, Alaska & raised equally there and in Northern Idaho, the outdoors was part of my home-another room, (the best room), in the house so to speak. We moved to 34 acres on the edge of the Canadian border when I was almost 9-years old & lived in a couple safari tents until my parents were able to build a one-room log cabin from the timber on the land in which we lived that winter without electricity or running water. Being outdoors is not only beneficial or medicinal, it is necessary to my wholeness- the health of my entire being. I enjoy reading, working, sleeping, playing & visiting there. Bringing yoga outside was a natural conclusion. Sharing it with you is part of my practice because we are all included in the community of nature.

I grew up with three brothers & a sister & always, several animal companions. Sharing was not a rule, or a suggestion, it was a way of life. Community shares. This is not generous, it is a way of survival & connection. There is no other- it is we. And this makes perfect harmonious sense to me.

Yoga by Nature

Growing up in the country, we were always moving- running through creeks, marshes, mountain forests and fresh pastures. Movement was self-expression, a way of prayer, and also a way of working together- weeding, planting, hauling water and wood and babies. Yoga is Connection- to ourselves, to each other, to God/Source. Through movement, we are able to rein in our thoughts and focus our energy.

However, yoga is not just a tool to support the body, but a way of being in order to foster connection and wholeness on every level.
